Phase II - Application and Invitational Screening and Interview
The application and invitational screening and interview process is the next step for potential candidates that will be able to meet the AKT2 program eligibility requirements and have been selected from the Phase I online AKT2 Pre-application. The two-part process includes the Phase II Application Package and an invitational screening and interview. The application and interview process is intended to select eligible candidates with great potential for success in becoming teachers in high needs areas. We carefully select individuals from different backgrounds and with a variety of experiences who we believe have demonstrated strong leadership and therefore have potential for success in the classroom. It is the goal of the AKT2 staff to work with individuals who have the desire to make a positive difference by working with Alaska children.
Potential candidates will be emailed a Phase II Application to apply to the program.
Completion of the Phase II Application Package includes: printing, completing, and mailing the application form and all associated supporting documents to the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development AKT2 staff.

The Application Form
On the application form you will need to provide your personal information (name, address, etc.), educational and professional training, and instructional and work experience. Applicants must include inked signatures on the affidavit by a notary and the applicant, as well as the fee payment and signed program commitment.
Passing Scores on Praxis I Tests
The Praxis I tests (Pre-Professional Skills Tests) measure basic academic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. Passing scores on Praxis I tests must be sent to the Alaska Teacher Certification office directly from ETS using the code 7027. To contact ETS, visit www.ets.org. You may call Teacher Certification (907-465-2831) to verify that passing Praxis I scores have been received by the Department of Education & Early Development. IMPORTANT: Please review the testing dates and locations offered by ETS to prepare for taking the Praxis I tests.
Original Transcripts from all Regionally Accredited Institutions
Official transcripts of all academic work listed must be included in the Phase II Application Package. Unofficial, photocopied, or faxed transcripts will not be accepted. Official transcripts may be opened, but not marked on in any way.
One FBI fingerprint card (Form FD-258) is required for ALL applications. If you cannot obtain a fingerprint card locally, call or email Teacher Certification 907-465-2831 or firstname.lastname@example.org to request a card. A fingerprint processing fee of $66 is included as part of the application fee.
Include a copy of your most recent resume or curriculum vitae.
Letters of Reference
Include three letters of reference with original signatures. References should be from individuals who are knowledgeable about your previous instructional or professional experiences.
Respond to the writing prompt provided on the application. Your writing should be professional and reflect the values that you wish to bring to the teaching profession.
Transcripts and other required documents become a part of the teacher's permanent records and remain on file with the department. 4 AAC 12.300(c).
Interview and Screening Process
After successful completion of the Phase II Application Package, in mid-December selected applicants will be invited to the Invitational Screening and Interview, which will be conducted in Anchorage, Alaska in mid-January by AKT2 staff, school district personnel, and AKT2 affiliated groups. Applicants must interview in person. No audio/video/webinar interviews will be conducted or substituted. It will be the applicant's responsibility to arrange and pay for travel and expenses associated with the Invitational Screening and Interview. The purpose of this event is to select the most highly qualified applicants. This will also give hiring managers from our partner districts opportunities to interact with potential AKT2 candidates.
The interview process will include the following components:
- Article discussion
- Mini-lesson (20 minutes)
- Online tools training
Successful applicants will be notified by the end of January. The number of applicants accepted into the AKT2 program varies depending upon both the size and quality of the applicant pool. Successful applicants will become AKT2 candidates and will immediately move into Phase III.
